Prompt the Muse #25 - Speculative Writing Prompt

Art: Cup Detail from Artemisia
Your characters need to transport a deadly poison. How do they protect themselves while they do this?  Do they need to use a special technology? Hazmat suits? Spells? Or perhaps some of your characters are naturally impervious to the poison? Write your ideas for how to transport this dangerous concoction in 200 words.

I have been chosen to carry the Gilden. An honor! A joy! My children will tell their children about this moment--how their mother, dressed in abundant red, held the glowing rock lovingly cupped in her blackening hands and laid it at the stone hem of our Goddess' own red robe. I do this now--how quickly my hair slides from my head and leaves me shorn! Quickly I recite the prayer, just as my eyes lose sight. My last thought should be of you, Goddess, but instead I imagine my little Juna, just now walking, hearing my story, wondering what color my eyes were.

Wow, Amy, this is a great response. Far more than just a prompt response, this is its own flash fiction or micro-fiction story. The repetition of color, red, and the word 'eyes' is very effective. Poetic.
